What can a meal preparation service do for your senior?During our meal preparation service, we can work with the senior and their loved ones to develop a healthy meal plan to ensure that proper nutrition is being met.
-
How to reheat senior prep meals?Thaw foods safely: Thaw frozen foods or meals in your refrigerator instead of on your countertop. For faster thawing, submerge foods in cold tap water, changing the water every 30 minutes. Reheat foods only once: The more times you cool and reheat a food, the higher the risk of food poisoning. That’s why defrosted foods should only be reheated once. Reheat foods at the right temperature: All meals should be reheated to 165°F (75°C) before being eaten. Frozen meals should be reheated and eaten within 24 hours of defrosting. Refrigerated meals should be consumed within 3–4 days and frozen meals within 3–6 months.

How is my order packed?Orders are packed in Styrofoam coolers with dry ice or gel packs. Please do not touch the dry ice directly, it is caustic and can burn the skin. When shipped alone, dry good items may be sent in a corrugated box. DO NOT TOUCH DRY ICE. USE AN OVEN MITT, GLOVES OR TONGS.
-
What if there is no dry ice?Dry Ice is frozen carbon dioxide. Unlike most solids, it does not melt into a liquid, but instead changes directly into a gas. This process is called sublimation. If there is no dry ice visible in the cooler, feel the product. If the product is cool, place it in the freezer or follow instructions for preparation. If the product is thawed, contact customer service.
-
How do I dispose of dry ice?Place the Styrofoam cooler outside or in a well-ventilated container and it will evaporate.
-

Can I place an order now and have it delivered at a later date? When you order online you can specify a later ship date during checkout. You may also request this service if you place your order by telephone with our customer service representatives. Please remember that you are selecting a ship date, not a delivery date. Please note, during busy holiday shipping seasons, we do release some orders a few days prior to the requested ship date, and therefore you may receive your order a few days early. We do recommend shipping holiday orders early in order to avoid busy ship weeks before a holiday.

How can I reheat my soup?Reheating Soup Soup is easy to reheat, whether on the stovetop or in the microwave. A handy rule to remember is that if you are reheating a chicken or meat broth or clear soup, bring it to a boil for three minutes. Soups are, in a way, the most flexible of foods when it comes to storage and reuse because they can be brought to a boil without risk of scorching. This is harder to do with soups that are thickened with flour or cream, because they might over-reduce, becoming too salty, thick, or cloudy. Finally, bring soup to a boil and then lower the heat and stir as it simmers gently for three more minutes.
-
How long can you store soup?In the refrigerator A general rule of thumb is that soup can be stored in the refrigerator for about three days, but you should always taste your dish before deciding to reheat. A clear, vegetable-based soup with some acidity, such as tomatoes, may last longer. Chicken soup usually lasts three to five days. Creamy soups will most likely last three days, and seafood soup two or three days. In the freezer Depending on the ingredients in your soup, a frozen batch can last you up to three months, assuming your freezer is the appropriate temperature, 0 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal, according to the USDA.
